Cornhill Exhibition Shows Ipswich’s Amazing Maritime Transformation
Visitors to the town centre over the next couple of weeks can browse pictures of Ipswich’s Port, past and present as part of a photo exhibition curated by Ipswich Maritime Trust.
The cubes have been purchased by Ipswich Central and Ipswich Borough Council, using funding awarded through the New Anglia Leading Enterprise Partnership (LEP) under their Innovative Project Fund.
The cubes, which are 2.5m high, just over 2m wide and have four sides will enable people to browse a number of large images. Looking ahead, the Cornhill can then be used as an occasional outdoor photo exhibition space.
“We are delighted to have purchased this legacy piece for the Cornhill. It has always been our intention to create a sense of place in the centre of our town so we are pleased this project will engage and inform both residents and visitors to our town” said Fiona Wright, Director, Ipswich Central.
Anyone browsing the exhibition will learn about Ipswich’s amazing transformation from the old commercial dock from Victorian times to modern day, using images archived over the last twenty years by Ipswich Maritime Trust. In addition, the photo exhibition promotes Ipswich’s Maritime Weekend, that takes place over the weekend of 17th and 18th August.

We hope this year’s Maritime Festival will encourage everyone visiting the Waterfront to take pride in the oldest continuously occupied English town with a history of international shipping dating back to the seventh century.” said Stuart Grimwade, Director of Ipswich Maritime Trust.
