"City Status: Ipswich should wholeheartedly be behind a bid."
Our CEO Sophie Alexander-Parker comments on the launch of our new city status engagement project: Future City Ipswich
"But first we must understand what it means to be a city and what the benefits could be for Ipswich, by including everyone who has a view.
This is about gathering the evidence, building the narrative and being able to present a case of support for City Status. The work around what this could mean for Ipswich must be started and built on, Ipswich Central fully supports Ipswich Borough Council in submitting a bid if and when the time comes again, a letter has been written to the leader of the Council in support of such a bid being developed and submitted.
We must make the most of our rural community and town being open all year round and making sure Ipswich continues to play an integral role within the visitor and tourism economy in the East of England. Ipswich is situated in the East of England where there are many areas of outstanding natural beauty, a huge range of culture and arts, with key transport links across the county and into London.
Ipswich has so much to put on show, and can offer its residents, visitors and businesses. Ipswich is the hub of Suffolk and East of England, the place where digital and other skills are grown, we must harness this."
