A new exhibition celebrating Ipswich Town’s return to the Premier League through unseen photography, supporter stories and original artwork opens soon (10am on 10 July).
After a season that will forever be remembered in the history of Ipswich Town Football Club, Gawn Up – a special exhibition celebrating the crucial final games of the campaign – opens to the public this Friday (10 July), inviting supporters to relive the unforgettable moments that carried the Blues back to the Premier League.
Created by Ipswich Town Football Club and Ipswich Central, the free exhibition runs from Friday, 10 July until Sunday, 19 July at Ipswich Town Hall, opening daily from 10am until 4pm.
Taking its name from the banner displayed by Blue Action in the stands as Ipswich secured promotion against QPR, Gawn Up tells the story of a campaign that united a club, a town, and its supporters. Rather than simply documenting results on the pitch, the exhibition explores the emotion, anticipation and togetherness that defined one of the greatest chapters in the club’s modern history.
Visitors will be taken on a journey through the final weeks of the promotion-winning campaign, featuring powerful photography from the final four matches of the season captured by acclaimed football culture photographers Adam Rosenbaum and George Dixon. Together, the images provide an intimate portrait of the moments, emotions, and people behind Ipswich Town’s return to the top flight.
The exhibition also offers a rare behind-the-scenes perspective through a collection of disposable camera photographs taken by Ipswich Town players, coaches, and staff in the immediate aftermath of promotion being secured. Alongside them are personal photographs captured by Ed Sheeran during the unforgettable final day against QPR, offering supporters a unique glimpse into celebrations few have ever seen.
Supporters themselves are at the heart of Gawn Up. Throughout the exhibition, fan photographs and memories help tell the story of promotion from the terraces, celebrating the people whose belief and loyalty helped make the achievement possible.
A dedicated section also showcases the work of Call Me Ted, highlighting the role design played in documenting and celebrating Ipswich Town’s remarkable season. Their bold visual language became synonymous with the club’s journey back to the Premier League, reflecting the energy and optimism felt across the town.
Visitors will also discover the work of artist Louise Cobbold, bringing together the complete collection of her striking player portraits created for Ipswich Town’s official matchday programme covers throughout the season.
Lee Walker, Chief Executive of Ipswich Central, said: “Promotion to the Premier League has given Ipswich memories that will last a lifetime, but what makes this season truly special is the way the whole town experienced it together. Gawn Up is about preserving those moments before they become memories. Whether it’s the emotion in the stands, the celebrations in the dressing room, or the creativity that surrounded the club throughout the season, this exhibition captures the many different stories that made promotion possible.
“We hope supporters, residents, and visitors alike will come and experience a celebration of a football club and a town at a truly remarkable moment in their shared history.”
