Ipswich Central is proud to announce that British artist John D Edwards will host a special exhibition, for one-night only, on Thursday 10 July 2025 in Ipswich town centre.
Titled ‘Big Paintings for Small Prices’, this event offers a rare chance to purchase large-scale original artwork from one of Britain’s most distinctive and imaginative painters — at uniquely affordable prices!
Best known locally for creating the now-iconic Digby the Octopus on the side of Paul’s Silo, which features on the striking canvas by Sammi Wong, John D Edwards loves Ipswich, having lived here since 2009.
While much of his work has been acquired by international collectors, many in the United States, this exhibition represents a deliberate effort to make his art more available here in the UK.
Proceeds from the exhibition will support the creation of a permanent gallery of John’s work and his extensive art collection of books within the Ipswich Institute, providing a lasting cultural legacy for the town and a protected resource for future generations.
John said of the event: “This exhibition is about more than selling paintings — it’s about creating a space for art to live on in Ipswich. I’ve always wanted my work to be accessible, to speak to people, and to belong here so the chance to build a lasting collection at the Ipswich Institute means everything to me.”
“We’re delighted to support this event,” said Lee Walker, CEO of Ipswich Central. “John’s work is part of the creative identity of Ipswich, and this exhibition celebrates his art in his local community in a meaningful and lasting way. It aligns with our belief that culture, accessibility, and place-based pride are key to our town’s future.”
The exhibition is open to all, and John himself will be present to speak with guests and share the stories behind his life’s work, with the purpose of creating a memorable experience for art lovers whilst raising funds for a long-term cultural initiative from the sale of his art created over the last 50 years.
