Ipswich food businesses have highest food hygiene rating

Ipswich is one of only two places in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland to improve its average rating in the most recent 2018/19 food hygiene inspections (increasing from 4.67 to 4.72).

Some of the other key findings by the Hub are :

  • Ipswich, along with Colchester, has the highest rating in the East Counties region, with a joint average of 4.67.
  • Ipswich’s average rating (4.67) is higher than Norwich (4.26).
  • More than 1 in every 15 businesses across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland have a hygiene rating of two or lower.
  • Takeaways were the biggest offenders across the UK, with 1 in 9 rated two or lower. This comes as Just Eat announces their plans to introduce a minimum standard rating of 3 for all new restaurant sign ups.
