Healthy High Streets needs you!

Last year, doctor Ipswich was successfully enrolled in the Healthy High Streets programme, delivered by Business in the Community on behalf of The Princes Trust.

The programme is supported by Marks & Spencer, Boots, Greggs, Santander and EE and will see 100 high streets in the country form groups that work together to increase footfall in their areas.

In Ipswich, the group has been established for four months and has already brought fun to the high street with fancy dress days for Halloween and Christmas to support a local charity. The group also support Heritage Fortnight in September where staff dressed up in store uniforms from days gone by and had company memorabilia on display.

Going forward, the Healthy High Streets group in Ipswich is now planning its activity for 2016 beginning with the following:

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day will be a chance to share with us on social media why you #loveyourhighstreet. We’ll be launching the campaign on 1 February and asking people to share their thoughts and pictures telling us why they love their high street.

We’d love local businesses to get involved too by sharing their pictures and ideas on social media. It could be a picture of your office team hard at work or the window display of your shop. We’re looking for anything which makes Ipswich stand out as a place to visit. Join in and we’ll share your images with our followers too.

Mother’s Day

We’d like to spoil an Ipswich mum this year with a pamper package like no other and we’re on the look out for that extra special someone who deserves a treat or two.

We’d love for other stores to become involved and donate a prize to make up a fabulous package. So far Marks & Spencer has donated an afternoon tea, Boots and pamper gift package and EE a sparkly phone cover to name a few.

We’ll be asking the people of Ipswich to nominate their mum for the prize by telling us, in no more than 250 words, why they deserve to win. Their nomination will then be dropped in to your store for us to collect and announce a winner.

Easter holidays

The Healthy High Streets group loves to get dressed up and Easter seems like the perfect occasion to do it all again. We’re asking all stores, if they can, to done the bunny ears and the chick costumes and turn the high street in to an Easter egg-stravaganza on Saturday 26 March.

Following this, we’ll be exploding on to the high streets over the next two weeks with a range of free activities for the children. Our ‘Free at Three’ events will take place at 3pm each day and we’re asking for local businesses to get involved by offering an activity for at least half an hour which is free for customers. Greggs will be offering cupcake decorating on one day and The Bear Garden will be offering the opportunity to join in with arts and crafts at the store.

If you’d like to be involved and are happy to offer an activity for at least half an hour at 3pm for a day during the Easter school holidays, please contact
